"Bloody Butcher" corn is an heirloom variety that has been grown in Appalachia since at least as early as the mid-1800s. Its exact origins are unknown, but it was also grown in Tennessee, West Virginia, and North Carolina. Small family farms have been diligently saving its seed generation after generation. It is prized for its distinctive beautiful color and unique flavor.
Deep Roots Milling
Deep Roots Milling, an employee-owned and operated venture, operates on a unique schedule, milling to order one week every month and offering a diverse range of flour and meal, both bolted and unbolted. With a focus on regionally grown grains, quality milling, and serving as a direct link between farmers and bakers, their mission is clear. All milling takes place within the historic walls of Woodson's Mill in Lowesville, VA. Driven by water, they mill with purpose. Originally constructed in the 1790s, Woodson’s Mill has remained operational for the majority of its existence, embodying a vital piece of American history. As many mills like Woodson’s disappeared due to the commercialization of the modern food system, Deep Roots Milling is committed to revitalizing this treasured piece of heritage.Ingredients: Corn
